Have you ever been to a busy public place and have been forced to go around asking people where the bathroom is, only to find that they don’t have any idea either? This is the kind of thing that really makes you wonder if it would’ve killed the management of the building to put up a couple of signs telling you where what is. Now, all buildings are required to have signage so if you’ve been in this situation where you had to ask for directions, the signs were probably still there. They just didn’t do a good job at placing them about.

If you’re part of a building’s management or are an owning party, then it’s up to you to make sure that your building has strategically placed way finding signage so that your clients and guests don’t have a hard time navigating it. Unless of course, if turning your building into a maze that you want your clients to navigate for themselves is what you’re going for, then, by all means, keep it as fun as it gets. Maybe then you could have clues instead of actual wayfinding signage.

If you want your premises to be easy to navigate, then you’ll have to learn more about wayfinding and establish a system that can be followed. Your floor plans need to be shown to experts in wayfinding so that they can produce signage and place it accordingly. There’s a certain time when people start wondering where the next sign is, so you have to place your signs very strategically just to make their lives easier.

You don’t want your customers to get lost and bug your employees about helping them find their way since your employees have other matters to attend to.
